Karabaglar Kaymakamligi

İzmir is the 3rd biggest city of Turkey and Karabağlar District is one of the important metropolitan districts of Izmir. It is located on 37 km2 area and as of 2014 has a population of 480.925. Kavacık Grape Festival is held in Karabağlar owing to the unique quality grape agriculture, and it is one of the leading furniture production regions of our country.

Akçakale (Akçakaya) Ruins located in the district, which has a history of approximately 2500 years, was declared as a first degree archaeological site. This is also the oldest settlement in the district.

Karabağlar District Governorship is the local top authority working with the Directorates of Education, Health, Youth and Sports, Religion, Civil Registry, Social Support Foundation. The number of the staff in the governorship is over 200 in various directorates.

Karabağlar District Governorship has established an EU Projects Office in September 2019 in order to find creative and also European type of solutions to the current problems in the district.  As a candidate country, Turkey and Karabağlar District Governorship is aware of the importance of collaboration with the local stakeholders and European partnerships. The scope of activities within the governorship includes education, security, environment, public works, culture, social services, health, integration of the disadvantaged into society, various local projects and EU related activities.

In this sense, in the third biggest Province of Turkey, Karabağlar is the largest district with many refugee, overpopulation, under education, employment, economic and social integration problems. Karabağlar District has a very large group of young population having traumas depending on migration, unemployment or various mental or physical disabilities. As the top authority in the District, Karabağlar Governorship is highly aware of the responsibility of inclusion and providing equal facilities disregarding the genderly, ethnically or economic differences.
